Monster of the Day #463

Since I already had featured the film’s (by far) most famous monster, I saved this, my second favorite, for the wrap-up. I always liked this sort of thing.

This second still gives a better look at it, sans the red tinting. You don’t exactly have to be Sigmund Freud (or Georgia O’Keeffe) to suspect maybe they were going for a certain effect there.

I love real space exploration and all that but there was a sad aspect to finding out the truth about our nearest planetary neighbors.  Just imagine there was a time not all that long ago that there was a chance (a small one to be sure but still there after all) that something like this was possible not all that far away from us.

Ya know, Ken…that bottom shot make me think of a new title…
    TAD ASTROHUNK: SPACE PROCTOLOGIST!
“Hold oh, Jane. I’ve found that martian Polip.”

On the other hand, Ken, you’ve got a monster that eats people (or wants to), so it has to have a mouth.  And since this one depends on food hanging around nearby, you don’t want to make the mouth look like an actual mouth (ie, jaws, teeth, fangs, mandibles).  How many different looks are there that can’t be interpreted another way?

Ok, now you’ve got me thinking weird things about Monster #451’s two “mouths”.

I can’t argue with you, BC, but that’s a particularly egregious example. Still, any movie with a Random Killer Plant is jake in my book.

Sometimes a banana plant is just a banana plant

I really liked this movie.  Amazing what you can do with cardboard when you have a horrendous red filter over everything.

Also, I feel like I should make a joke here, but it’s probably better if I don’t.
